Supervisor of Transportation

Minimum Requirements

Transportation related training/work experience preferred.
Must have or be willing to obtain a school bus driver's license.
Must be able to handle multiple tasks within a limited timeframe.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Experience as a school bus driver or school transportation preferred.
Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Abuse Registry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain on-time service of the school district transportation system.

Call substitute drivers/aides and assign individuals to cover runs.

Maintain accurate attendance and assignment rosters for drivers and aides, fuel logs, and other necessary reports.

Communicate with contractors, drivers, aides, school personnel, community members, and parents/guardians through phone, email, and electronic messaging applications.

Communicate with buses through the two-way radio system and cellular phones.

Assist in managing on‑road problems and emergencies such as accidents and breakdowns.

Provide necessary equipment and/or student information to drivers and aides.

Communicate with drivers about unique highway situations, conditions, and alternate routes if necessary.

Schedule, assign, and confirm drivers and aides to extra‑curricular trips such as field trips, sports trips, and community trips according to the Colonial Transportation Collaborative Agreement.

Work outside of the typically assigned contractual day, weekends, and/or holidays to dispatch for trips as needed.

Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Designee.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly talking, expressing, or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain skills. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit, and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
