Job Title:

Secondary Special Education Paraprofessional

Job Goal:
To assist the teachers achieve teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Special Education students in both the general education and special education settings, as directed by the student's IEP and Teacher of Record.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Teacher of Record and General Education Teacher to ensure the student’s IEP is being implemented across settings.
  • Work as a one‑on‑one assistant for a student, assisting with the student's academic and physical needs.
  • Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on their perceived understanding of individual students, their needs, and abilities.
  • Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence by completing required training hours and courses.
  • Assist teachers/special education department as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Meet all requirements to be considered a Highly Qualified Para Professional, including a minimum of 2 years’ college credit or passing score on the Praxis Para Pro Exam.
  • Pass the required Expanded Criminal History Check and Expanded CPS Check.

Starting at $13.20 per hour
