Chemist Position

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Chemist to join a dynamic laboratory team in New Castle. This role is crucial to maintaining the integrity and accuracy of our laboratory operations, ensuring top-notch quality in our chemical analyses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the precision and dependability of laboratory analytical equipment.
  • Perform chemical analysis on a variety of samples, including final steel, VAR/ESR, and VIM chemistry samples, as well as conducting product checks.
  • Conduct maintenance and standardization of analytical equipment.
  • Complete daily reporting tasks related to production, hydrogen, and chemistry.
  • Prepare samples for rigorous testing and maintain sample preparation equipment.
  • Review and update procedures as needed to improve lab efficiency.
  • Identify and mark jominy samples in the absence of met lab personnel.
  • Participate in ongoing analytical testing competency and proficiency testing.
  • Fulfill duties in the Metallurgy Lab when required.
  • Travel locally, nationally, and internationally to interact with customers and attend conferences as needed.
  • Adhere to all established safety regulations and work rules.
Qualifications:
  • A 4-year technical degree is required, with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering being preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in a chemistry lab environment with a focus on quality assurance is essential.
  • Experience in prepping and analyzing solid metal samples is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with X-ray analysis is a plus.
  • Completion of EQS in-house training such as Theoretical Steelmaking and OES Training Class, unless superseded by a technical degree.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and comply with the Motor Vehicle Safety Program, with a willingness to travel when necessary.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and eagerness to learn.
