Overview
Position Summary. This position requires safe and efficient operation of paratransit vehicles for the purpose of transporting passengers to a prescribed destination. The highest level of customer service, passenger sensitivity, and confidentiality is expected which meets ACTS’ transportation programs’ requirements.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities- Obtain vehicle assignment and shift start times for the following business day by contacting Dispatch each afternoon between 4:00pm – 5:30pm.
- Before starting shift, perform pre-trip walk-around vehicle inspection and document findings on the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVI). Immediately notify Dispatch of any vehicle deficiencies so an alternate vehicle can be assigned for the shift.
- Complete all required forms accurately and professionally, including Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVI), Manifest Cover Sheets, and Incident Reports.
- Interact with an assigned electronic tablet to record vehicle mileage at shift start/end and at each passenger stop, receive trip assignments, use GPS navigation, and record all trips, no-shows, and passenger fare types.
- Receive fare payments from passengers and record the passenger’s r, fare amount, and fare type (cash or balance account system) on the fare envelope for end-of-shift accounting.
- Operate a wheelchair lift and assist passengers using mobility devices while navigating ramps and surfaces. Ensure all passengers and mobility devices are securely fastened during transport using four wheelchair tie-downs and shoulder/lap harnesses.
- Provide door-to-door assistance to passengers requiring help, including assist from the door to the vehicle and from the vehicle to the destination door. Do not carry or transport passengers who use a wheelchair up or down steps or across thresholds higher than a few inches.
- Carry and load/unload packages (e.g., grocery bags) when requested by the passenger and deliver to the residence door; communicate any fare or scheduling conflicts to Dispatch as needed.
- Request and view Senior Citizen Shared-Ride Program Identification Cards (Senior issued through the PA Lottery Program). Driver Licenses and other government IDs with birth dates are acceptable.
- Utilize two-way cellular radios to communicate with Dispatch; keep radio and electronic tablet within hearing distance during shift (except during unpaid breaks).
- Avoid soliciting tips and do not accept tips exceeding a few dollars. Report any incidents to Management using an Incident Report.
- Attend all required training as directed by ACTS management.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness daily by picking up trash and sweeping during down times.
- Fuel vehicles during down times using designated fuel cards; check vehicle fluids (typically every other day) and record fueling/fluids on manifest cover sheets.
- Exercise sound judgment in emergencies; notify Dispatch immediately of accidents, property damage, or medically urgent situations. Complete ACTS Incident Reports before the end of the shift if events occur.
- Be willing and able to work during ACTS’ regular operating hours or as assigned by a Supervisor or Dispatcher.
Provide door-to-door transportation services for passengers in the best possible manner for people from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
QualificationsDrivers will be required to submit to employer-paid FBI-Fingerprinting, Act 33 and 34 clearances (Child Abuse and Criminal Record Check) and a Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Record Check. Drivers will also be required to pass an employer-paid pre-hire DOT Physical Examination as well as FTA approved drug and alcohol tests.
