The Payroll Tax Specialist 1 will work through the process of quarterly and periodic payroll tax filings and should expect an increase in workload around year-end payroll tax activities, including annual reconciliations, W-2 processing, and tax reporting requirements. The incumbent will be responsible for researching and resolving payroll tax issues with state and federal agencies, managing powers of attorney (POAs), processing refund checks, and coordinating payroll tax registrations across multiple jurisdictions.
This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to independently investigate and resolve complex payroll tax matters while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. In addition, the employee will manage reciprocity tax matters, W-2C corrections, Service Now tickets, and employee tax-related inquiries. The role will involve reviewing payroll tax data for accuracy, identifying and correcting discrepancies, monitoring agency notices, maintaining documentation, and supporting audit requests.
The Payroll Tax Specialist 1 will collaborate closely with Payroll Operations, Human Resources, Finance, and external agencies to ensure timely and accurate payroll tax processing, compliance, and issue resolution.
HR Operations Analyst II - Provides a range of analytical, program and/or operational process support within a defined functional area.
Depth & Scope:
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of the operating environment, business processes and procedures, and transaction lifecycle for own area
- Identifies and investigates non-standard operational / reporting / process issues
- Provides recommendations or escalates issues to appropriate area
- Provides regular analysis and/or reporting to support business partners, functional areas or centres of expertise
- Requires working professional level knowledge of the functional area and/or business areas supported
- Moderate level of complexity in operational / reporting / process and/or analysis function requiring a short to medium term focus
- May represents the group as a project lead on projects / initiatives and/or at meetings across the organization
- Provides training to others on best practices, processes, etc. as well as guide junior staff for the completion of business as usual functions
Education & Experience:
- Undergraduate degree required
- 3+ years relevant experience required
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of the operating environment, business processes and procedures, and transaction lifecycle for own area
