About Green Mountain Conservation GroupGreen Mountain Conservation Group (GMCG) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving the natural resources of New Hampshire’s Ossipee Watershed. The organization has a 6-member Board of Directors, an Executive Director, three Program Coordinators, and two Ameri Corps members. GMCG operates with an annual budget of approximately $350,000 and is poised for growth through multi-year government and foundation grant awards.
GMCG uses Quick Books Online for financial management and contracts with an external accounting firm for its annual financial review and IRS Form 990 preparation. The organization’s headquarters are located on Huntress Bridge Road, in Effingham, NH. The outgoing bookkeeper will work closely with the incoming bookkeeper to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities.
Job SummaryGMCG seeks a qualified, part-time contract Bookkeeper to provide accurate, timely, and professional financial recordkeeping. This position averages 10-15 hours per month and reports directly to the Executive Director.
The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining day-to-day financial records, reconciling accounts, monitoring cash flow, and preparing monthly financial reports for the Executive Director and Board Treasurer. This role also includes coordinating with a payroll service provider.
Responsibilities- Record payments made by the Executive Director via cash, check, debit card, or other methods
- Compile and record deposits, including cash, checks, and online payments
- Enter approved invoices and issue payments as needed
- Reconcile all bank accounts, savings, investment, and online payment platforms (e.g., Pay Pal, Stripe)
- Enter journal entries as required (e.g., payroll entries provided)
- Prepare month-end, quarterly, and year-end financial reports
- Track grant income and expenditures and prepare grant-related financial reports as requested
- Prepare year-end financial documents for the CPA and accounting firm
- Assist with drafting the annual budget and enter the approved budget into Quick Books
- Maintain organized electronic and paper financial records to support audits, reconciliation, and research
- Coordinate with payroll service provider
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, accounting, math, economics, or a related field,
or - Professional bookkeeping certification (e.g., American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers)
- Minimum of 3–4 years of bookkeeping experience
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and best practices
- Advanced proficiency in Quick Books Online and Microsoft Office
- Experience establishing accounts and working with nonprofit accounting classifications
- Ability to follow and help implement organizational financial policies and standards
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Commitment to confidentiality and ethical financial practices
- Ability to meet reporting deadlines efficiently
- Friendly, reliable, and highly organized with strong written and verbal communication skills
- $30.00–$40.00 per hour , based on experience and qualification
- Comfortable working in a small nonprofit organization environment
- Availability to work bi-weekly or as needed to complete duties
- There is opportunity to work remotely for a majority of the tasks
