Northeast Woodland School is seeking a dedicated, creative, and relationship-centered Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to join our faculty. This full-time position serves students in grades 6–8 within a Waldorf-inspired educational environment that values child development, experiential learning, and strong school-family partnerships.
About the RoleThe Middle School ELA Teacher will:
- Teach four 45-minute ELA skills classes per week for grades 6–8
- Lead three grade-level main lesson blocks
- Integrate reading, writing, grammar, and literature in alignment with Common Core standards
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and extend learning for advanced students
- Incorporate art, movement, storytelling, and experiential learning into the curriculum
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure students meet ELA standards by the end of 8th grade
- Create a positive, relationship-based classroom environment
- Establish clear lesson objectives and maintain high academic expectations
- Observe, assess, and document student progress using formative and summative assessments
- Maintain accurate student records and complete required NH SAS and NWEA proctoring
- Communicate regularly with families (including monthly newsletters and timely incident communication)
- Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and support staff
- Supervise students indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
- Attend staff meetings, professional development, and Waldorf training (if not yet credentialed)
- Manage classroom materials, budget, and administrative responsibilities
- Experience working with middle school students
- Demonstrated passion for English Language Arts
- Knowledge of Common Core Reading and Writing Standards
- Understanding of child development and relationship-based classroom management
- Familiarity with or willingness to pursue Waldorf teacher training (school-supported)
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet varied student needs
- Proficiency (or willingness to learn) in Google Suite, ALMA, Parent Square, Canva, NWEA, and NH SAS platforms
- Ability to work outdoors and remain active for extended periods in varied weather conditions
- Builds strong, healthy relationships with students and families
- Approaches behavior with proactive, developmentally appropriate strategies
- Is reflective, solution-oriented, and eager to grow professionally
- Values collaboration and contributes positively to the school culture
