Position Summary
The Pedagogical Director is a senior educational leader responsible for stewarding the integrity and evolution of Waldorf pedagogy while ensuring an inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and academically rigorous learning environment. The Director guides the school’s pedagogical vision, mentors and evaluates faculty, collaborates with leadership and families, and supports equitable outcomes for all students. The role requires a deep commitment to Anthroposophy, Waldorf education, and diversity, equity, and inclusion, and is grounded in collaborative, compassionate leadership.
Key Responsibilities Pedagogical Leadership- Uphold and advance Waldorf pedagogy across all grades, ensuring curriculum alignment with developmental stages, Waldorf principles, and applicable standards.
- Observe classes, mentor faculty, review curriculum and block plans, and support instructional improvement.
- Maintain high expectations for academic rigor, artistic integration, and culturally responsive teaching.
- Occasionally teach or participate in classrooms to remain connected to pedagogy and students.
- Guide annual pedagogical goal-setting in collaboration with leadership teams.
- Provide mentoring, supervision, and annual evaluations for faculty.
- Coordinate peer review processes and professional learning initiatives.
- Help facilitate faculty meetings that support reflective practice, alignment, and collaboration.
- Strengthen mentoring systems that balance teacher autonomy with fidelity to Waldorf principles.
- Collaborate with administration on strategic planning, hiring, onboarding, accreditation, and compliance.
- Maintain curriculum, evaluation, and professional development documentation.
- Serve as administrator for IEP meetings; oversee 504 plans and student support processes.
- Participate in student behavior and discipline systems, including development of support plans.
- Maintain substitute systems and support staff absence coverage.
- Chair designated committees and contribute to overall organizational leadership.
- Serve as a bridge between the school’s pedagogy and family understanding.
- Support parent education events and community gatherings.
- Communicate with families regarding curriculum, pedagogy, and student progress.
- Foster a unified, inclusive school culture grounded in shared values.
- Waldorf teacher training certification.
- Minimum five years teaching experience in a Waldorf school.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Waldorf pedagogy and Anthroposophy.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, organizational, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with charter/public Waldorf environments.
- Experience in school leadership or pedagogical coordination.
- Experience facilitating collaborative decision-making and team development.
- School-issued computer and communication systems.
- Educational and administrative platforms including ALMA, Parent Square, Google Workspace, Paychex systems, and reporting tools associated with the New Hampshire Department of Education.
The Pedagogical Director engages in ongoing professional growth, including continued study of Waldorf pedagogy and Anthroposophy, participation in professional learning communities, and leadership in cultivating a collaborative, reflective, and continuously improving school culture.
