Northeast Woodland School is seeking a dedicated, creative, and relationship-centered Lower Elementary Teacher to join our faculty. This full-time position serves students in grades 2–4 within a Waldorf-inspired educational environment that values child development, experiential learning, and strong school-family partnerships.
About the Role The Lower Elementary Teacher will:- Lead a self-contained elementary classroom of up to 21 students
- Deliver instruction aligned with Waldorf curriculum guidelines and NH requirements
- Integrate movement, artistic activity, storytelling, hands‑on exploration, and experiential learning into daily instruction
- Establish clear academic and behavioral expectations while fostering curiosity and perseverance
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Administer and interpret standardized assessments (including NH SAS and NWEA)
- Create a positive, relationship‑based classroom environment
- Prepare engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons and materials
- Observe, assess, and document student academic, social, and emotional development
- Maintain accurate student records and required testing documentation
- Communicate regularly with families, including monthly newsletters and timely updates regarding student needs or incidents
- Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate curriculum across grades
- Supervise students indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
- Supervise and mentor assistant teachers and volunteers, including regular check‑ins
- Assist with class fundraising efforts in coordination with the business office
- Attend staff meetings, professional development, and Waldorf training (if not yet credentialed)
- Manage classroom materials, organization, and budget responsibilities
- Experience working with elementary‑aged children
- Knowledge of Waldorf pedagogy (or willingness to pursue Waldorf Teacher Training within two years)
- Commitment to pursuing state licensure within five years
- Strong understanding of child development and relationship‑based classroom management
- Knowledge of formative and summative assessment practices
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Proficiency (or willingness to learn) in Google Suite, Parent Square, Canva, ALMA, NWEA, and NH SAS platforms
- Ability to work outdoors and remain active for extended periods in varied weather conditions
- Creates a structured yet imaginative and engaging classroom environment
- Builds strong, healthy relationships with students and families
- Approaches behavior with proactive, developmentally appropriate strategies
- Is reflective, solution‑oriented, and eager to grow professionally
- Values collaboration and contributes positively to the school culture
