Overview

Under the direction of the CHHS Director of Simulation and Digital Health, the Simulation Education Learning Specialist (SELS) serves as the content expert and curriculum leader for simulation-based education within the Health Sciences Simulation Center. The SELS works closely with faculty on curriculum design, instructional methodology, assessment, and evaluation of high-quality simulation-based education. The SELS provides leadership in the development, integration, and continuous improvement of simulation curriculum and plays a central role in supporting teaching and learning by overseeing the development, programming, testing, and delivery of clinical learning scenarios, ensuring alignment with curricular goals, accreditation standards, and best practices in simulation education.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership in Simulation Curriculum Design & Mapping (50%)
    • Serve as the subject-matter expert on simulation pedagogy, simulation curriculum, and debriefing methodologies.
    • Support faculty and clinical staff through the design and implementation of simulation-based learning activities.
    • Translate course objectives and clinical competencies into effective and pedagogically sound simulation scenarios and learning experiences.
    • Support alignment of simulation activities with accreditation standards, program outcomes, and evidence-based educational practices.
    • Contribute to the development of standardized approaches to simulation pedagogy and debriefing frameworks.
  • Evaluation, Assessment, and Continuous Improvement (20%)
    • Serve as the subject-matter expert on simulation learner assessment.
    • Support faculty and clinical staff in the evaluation of simulation-based learning activities through data collection, learner feedback, and outcome measures.
    • Support faculty in assessing learner performance and documenting educational outcomes.
    • Use evaluation data to inform continuous improvement of simulation curriculum, scenarios, and instructional practices.
    • Contribute to reporting and documentation related to simulation utilization and educational impact.
  • Scenario Programming, Testing, and Delivery (20%)
    • Support programming, testing, and running clinical simulation scenarios in collaboration with faculty instructors and simulation staff.
    • Support the preparation of simulation environments, learning materials, and scenario flow to ensure smooth execution of educational activities.
    • Support in-session instruction during simulation activities.
    • Assist with faculty, staff, and student orientation to the simulation environment and expectations.
  • Professional Development, Accreditation Support & Innovation (10%)
    • Stay current with best practices, emerging trends, and innovations in simulation-based education and healthcare pedagogy.
    • Participate in professional development activities, trainings, and relevant committees or work groups.
    • Contribute to the advancement of simulation education initiatives within CHHS.
    • Support advancement of the Health Sciences Simulation Center toward national accreditation.
Requirements Minimum Acceptable

Education & Experience:
  • Master’s degree in health sciences, education, simulation education, nursing, or allied health field.
  • Active professional licensure in a healthcare or human services discipline (e.g., RN, OT, SW, or equivalent), sufficient to support clinical education, supervision, and/or compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Education.
  • Expertise in simulation pedagogy.
  • Experience working with faculty to support simulation teaching and learning in healthcare or academic clinical education environments.
  • Knowledge of national simulation standards and best practices.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary setting.
