Salary: $44,012 to $86,274 per year

New Hampshire Department of Education Certification in Early Childhood Special Education (Birth–Age
8) or eligibility for certification.

Position Summary

SAU 20 is seeking a highly qualified and student‑centered Early Childhood Special Education Teacher to provide specialized instruction and support to preschool and primary‑aged students (ages 3–8) with disabilities. The successful candidate will design and implement individualized educational programs that promote the development of academic, communication, social‑emotional, adaptive, and behavioral skills in inclusive and specialized educational settings. The Teacher will collaborate with families, general education teachers, related service providers, and community agencies to ensure that students receive a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE) in accordance with IDEA, New Hampshire Rules for the Education of Children with Disabilities, and SAU 20 policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direct specialized instruction to students ages 3–8 with a variety of developmental, cognitive, communication, behavioral, and physical disabilities.
  • Develop and implement individualized educational programs (IEPs) aligned with student needs and New Hampshire curriculum standards.
  • Utilize evidence‑based instructional practices appropriate for young children with disabilities.
  • Create structured, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environments.
  • Support students in acquiring foundational academic, communication, social‑emotional, adaptive, and functional skills.
  • Implement positive behavioral supports and behavior intervention plans as needed.
  • Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals and objectives.
  • Participate in referral, evaluation, eligibility, and IEP team meetings.
  • Conduct educational assessments and contribute to multidisciplinary evaluations.
  • Develop legally compliant IEPs, progress reports, and required special education documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with IDEA, FERPA, and New Hampshire special education regulations.
  • Ensure services are provided as outlined in student IEPs.
  • Collaborate with families to support student growth and participation in educational programming.
  • Coordinate services with speech‑language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school psychologists, behavior specialists, and other service providers.
  • Provide consultation and support to paraprofessionals and classroom staff.
  • Participate in Child Find activities and transitions into and out of early childhood programs.
  • Participate in professional development and district initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field.
  • New Hampshire certification in Early Childhood Special Education (Birth–Age
    8) or eligibility for certification.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Experience working with preschool and early elementary students with disabilities.
  • Experience implementing evidence‑based interventions for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental delays, communication disorders, and social‑emotional challenges.
  • Experience working in inclusive early childhood settings.
  • Familiarity with progress monitoring systems and special education software.
