Job Description

Join our team at Pelham Memorial School as a FACS Teacher! Home to more than 1,600 students, the Pelham School District consists of Pelham Elementary School (preschool through grade
5), Pelham Memorial School (grades 6 through
8), and Pelham High School (grades 9 through 12). In Pelham we provide a supportive learning environment as well as a wide variety of extracurricular clubs, activities, and sports.

About the Position

Classroom teachers are responsible for the education of students in their charge by employing a variety of instructional techniques that meet the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. They create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students, maintaining open communication with parents and guardians to serve the best interests of all students.

  • Utilizes district curriculum goals and objectives to write comprehensive lesson plans.
  • Uses a variety of audio, visual, manipulative and technological materials and resources to support the district's curriculum.
  • Identifies possible causes of student behavior and deals with the behavior constructively according to school board policy.
  • Assesses students to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Utilizes data from standardized tests and a variety of formal and informal assessments to drive instruction.
  • Maintains maximum supervision of assigned students at all times and encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Strives to implement, instruct and act on the School District’s educational goals and objectives.
  • Implements accommodations and modifications as listed on Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administration regulation.
  • Participates in various meetings (e.g., parent conferences, in-service training, faculty meetings, curriculum construction and revision).
  • Follows district policies, procedures, goals and approved curriculum for content areas.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver standards-based instruction aligned with district curriculum.
  • Teach middle school Family and Consumer Science courses that may include nutrition, sewing/textiles, and life skills, food preparation, kitchen safety, sanitation, and culinary techniques.
  • Develop engaging, hands‑on, project‑based learning opportunities for students.
  • Differentiated instruction to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of diverse learners.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom and kitchen/lab environment.
  • Enforce all kitchen safety and food sanitation procedures.
  • Assess student learning using a variety of formative and summative assessment methods.
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, and communication with families.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, counselors, special education staff, and administration to support student success.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school initiatives.
  • Manage classroom inventory and assist with ordering supplies and materials as needed.
Qualifications
  • Valid New Hampshire certification in Family and Consumer Science or eligibility for certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Science, Culinary Arts, Education, or related field required.
  • Experience teaching middle school students preferred.
  • Knowledge of kitchen safety, food sanitation, and culinary instruction.
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
What We Offer

This is a full‑time, school‑year position working 186 days per year. It is covered under our Pelham Education Association (PEA) collective bargaining agreement.
