The Sanborn Regional School District is seeking a highly collaborative and student-centered Reading Specialist for Grades 6–12 to support the continued development of literacy achievement across the secondary schools. The Reading Specialist will provide targeted literacy intervention and support for students, collaborate with teachers to strengthen evidence-based literacy practices across content areas, analyze student achievement data, and contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive secondary literacy program.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of adolescent literacy and the ability to support students with a range of reading needs, including students who require intensive intervention as well as students who benefit from additional support in reading comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and academic literacy.

Student Support and Intervention
  • Provide targeted, evidence-based reading intervention to students in Grades 6–12.
  • Identify students requiring additional literacy support through assessment data, teacher referral, MTSS processes, and other relevant measures.
  • Develop and implement individualized or small-group literacy interventions based on student needs.
  • Monitor student progress regularly and adjust interventions based on data.
  • Support students in developing strategies for reading comprehension, vocabulary development, fluency, close reading, and understanding increasingly complex texts.
  • Help students develop literacy skills necessary for success across academic content areas.
  • Maintain accurate records of intervention services, student progress, and instructional data.
Assessment and Data Analysis
  • Analyze multiple sources of student literacy data to identify strengths, needs, trends, and gaps in achievement.
  • Support teachers and administrators in interpreting assessment data and using results to inform instruction.
  • Participate in the district's MTSS process and assist teams in determining appropriate interventions and progress-monitoring strategies.
  • Utilize formative and summative assessment information to measure the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Communicate student progress and recommendations to teachers, administrators, and families as appropriate.
Teacher Collaboration and Instructional Support
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special educators, interventionists, counselors, and administrators to support students' literacy development.
  • Provide coaching, modeling, and professional learning related to evidence-based literacy practices.
  • Support content‑area teachers in incorporating literacy strategies into instruction, including reading comprehension, vocabulary, disciplinary literacy, and analysis of complex texts.
  • Collaborate with teachers to differentiate literacy instruction and provide appropriate scaffolds and supports.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of consistent literacy practices across Grades 6–12.
  • Participate in professional learning communities and instructional teams focused on student achievement and literacy improvement.
Curriculum and Program Development
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the district's secondary literacy curriculum and intervention programs.
  • Collaborate with curriculum leaders and teachers to ensure literacy instruction is aligned with New Hampshire academic standards and district expectations.
  • Assist in identifying appropriate instructional resources, intervention materials, and evidence-based literacy practices.
  • Contribute to the development of a coherent K–12 literacy continuum, with particular attention to the transition from elementary to middle school and middle school to high school.

Collaboration and Communication
