Description
Location: On-Site at School-Based Program - Thornton Central Elementary School, Thornton, NH
Reports To: Area Director
Schedule: Before & After School, School Breaks, and Summer Programs
Monday-Friday: 3PM-5PM
Pay: $25-30/hour, Based on experience and region
Position OverviewThe Head Coach serves as the leader of an after-school program site, creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for children. This hands-on leadership role combines youth development, staff supervision, program operations, and relationship building with families and school partners.
The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, and passionate about helping children build confidence, resilience, and life skills.
- Lead daily program operations and ensure a positive experience for students.
- Facilitate engaging enrichment, academic support, recreation, and character-building activities.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming program environment.
- Manage student attendance, transitions, and dismissal procedures.
- Supervise and support site staff.
- Provide coaching, training, and ongoing feedback to team members.
- Lead staff meetings and promote a positive team culture.
- Build strong relationships with students, families, and school personnel.
- Communicate program updates, successes, and student needs.
- Represent the organization professionally within the school community.
- Ensure compliance with state licensing regulations and company policies.
- Maintain accurate program records and documentation.
- Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and behavioral concerns.
- Minimum 1 year of leadership experience in education, childcare, youth development, recreation, or a related field.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead staff while actively engaging with children.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
State Requirements:
- A minimum of an Associate's Degree from an accredited college/university in related coursework
- Written documentation from the state indicating eligibility to be a Site Director in a school aged program
- Certification of successful completion of training as a Recreation Director AND 1,000 hours of experience working with children in a licensed childcare facility or school
- 12 credits or more in child development, education, recreation or related coursework AND 1,000 hours of experience working with children in a licensed childcare facility or school
- Certification as an educator by the Dept. of Education
- Ability to actively participate in indoor and outdoor activities.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout program hours.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally.
