Summary

The Permanent Long-Term Substitute is responsible for lesson planning, delivering instruction, and assessing students in the absence of regular teachers or staff. This position requires consistent availability, typically Monday through Friday on instructional days, in alignment with the school calendar. Additionally, the substitute is expected to attend all staff meetings and professional development opportunities.

Essential Functions
  • Plan and develop lesson plans and assessments designed to meet the needs of the students and courses assigned to teach.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at the designated locations and times, following the lesson plans.
  • Assist all school personnel in implementing district and school policies, rules, and regulations governing student conduct during school hours and related activities, including before and after school supervisory duties.
  • Prepare for assigned classes as needed, ensuring the instructional objectives are met.
  • Utilize appropriate media and instructional materials to support the goals of the instructional program.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and supportive instructional environment for students' well-being.
  • Establish and enforce standards of behavior consistent with district and school policies, ensuring fair and just implementation.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Keep accurate, complete, and timely records as required by law, district, or school policies.
  • Follow established communication channels for school-related matters in accordance with district or school policies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage classroom situations effectively while respecting the dignity and worth of each individual.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the instructional program and participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
Job Expectations
  • Work as assigned, following the school calendar and schedule (Monday-Friday).
  • Complete all scheduled assignments as directed.
  • Remain flexible and willing to take on additional duties beyond the original assignment when needed.
  • Model professionalism in experience, attitude, and demeanor at all times.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Adhere to student and staff confidentiality requirements in accordance with FERPA.
  • Participate in required training, including but not limited to bullying prevention, blood borne pathogen safety, suicide prevention, and others as mandated.
  • Collaborate harmoniously and professionally with colleagues and staff.
  • Respond promptly and accurately to administrative requests.
  • Communicate student progress following established procedures and policies.
  • Submit student attendance in accordance with district policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • NHDOE Teacher Certification in one (1) educational area and one (1) year of relevant classroom experience preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Adheres to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Actively participates in building-level staff meetings.
  • Engages in professional learning activities as requested.

  • Communicates regularly and effectively with students, co-workers, parents/guardians, and the community.
