Internal candidate priority for the Shoals Marine Laboratory (SML), jointly operated by the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and Cornell University. SML offers experiential, place‑based education focused on understanding and sustaining the marine environment. Adjunct faculty live and teach in residence at SML, located on Appledore Island, Maine and are experts in their field of study, inspiring the next generation of students toward careers in marine and environmental science and sustainability.
Duties/Responsibilities- Serve as core academic teaching staff for selected Shoals Marine Laboratory credit course(s).
- Provide lecture and laboratory exercises to accomplish established course objectives.
- Supervise undergraduate and/or high school students during laboratory and field experiences.
- Assess student academic performance and submit final grades at course conclusion.
- When applicable, provide guidance and supervision for up to two teaching assistants.
- PhD or equivalent years of experience in the appropriate field of study.
- Prior teaching experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong competency in marine science field methods.
- Prior experience living in a remote field environment preferred but not required.
Pay Range: $205 per day for public program faculty; $211 per day for academic faculty.
