Automation Engineer II (Mechanical Focus)

The Automation Engineer II is responsible for designing, building, testing, and supporting automated systems, with a strong emphasis on mechanical automation
. This role supports continuous improvement initiatives, develops custom automation solutions, and collaborates with engineering, production, and operations teams to ensure reliable system performance.

Key Responsibilities Mechanical Automation & System Development
  • Design and build complete mechanical automation systems from concept through final integration.
  • Manage and oversee the construction and execution of automation projects.
  • Create detailed mechanical drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Lead mechanical fixture design
    , including jigs, tooling, and precision components.
  • Perform metal fabrication
    , including machining, cutting, welding (if applicable), and assembly.
  • Operate and program 3‑axis CNC mills and CNC lathes for manufacturing custom parts.
  • Execute designs from start to finish
    —concept, CAD, prototype, fabrication, assembly, testing, and system validation.
  • Integrate mechanical elements with controls, robotics, and automation hardware.
Education & Experience
  • BA/BS in Engineering with 3–6+ years of experience, or
  • MA/MS with 0–3+ years
    , or
  • AA/AS/Technical School with 4–8+ years
    .
Preferred Background
  • Experience designing and manufacturing automated mechanical systems.
  • Hands‑on mechanical assembly and fabrication experience.
  • CNC machining (3‑axis mill, lathe) and CAM programming experience preferred.
  • Experience with quality tools, measurement equipment, and basic inspection.
  • Project management experience beneficial.
