Position Overview

The Senior Member of Technical Staff will lead the electrical design and development of next‑generation, high‑reliability undersea communication products. This role focuses on the design of analog and digital circuitry, including microcontrollers, FPGAs, and electro‑optic components such as photodiodes and lasers.

The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with cross‑functional engineering teams, including electrical, mechanical, optical, and reliability engineering, to develop fault‑tolerant systems capable of operating in demanding subsea environments.

This position will also support verification, qualification, and manufacturing readiness activities, including the development of test plans and support for product introduction into manufacturing. The role reports directly to the Director of Lightwave Technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and simulate analog and digital electronic circuits
  • Develop high‑reliability, fault‑tolerant systems for subsea applications
  • Support the design and integration of microcontrollers, FPGAs, and electro‑optic components
  • Plan, execute, and document qualification testing for new products
  • Perform hands‑on experimental work involving prototype circuits, assemblies, and components
  • Develop verification and validation plans for new designs
  • Create factory test procedures and manufacturing test plans
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external suppliers
  • Support the transition of new designs into manufacturing
  • Ensure all work is conducted in alignment with company policies, procedures, and core values
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Strong background in electrical design, data analysis, and computer programming
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design and simulation
  • Hands‑on laboratory and experimental troubleshooting experience
  • Ability to solder, assemble, and wire electronic circuits
  • Experience working with single‑mode optical fiber, fiber optic components, and optical measurement techniques
  • Strong understanding of high‑reliability product development practices
  • Self‑motivation with the ability to proactively identify issues and drive solutions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail with a proven ability to execute complex technical projects successfully
Preferred Experience
  • FPGA development and embedded systems experience
  • Experience working in telecom, optical networking, aerospace, defense, or other high‑reliability industries
  • Familiarity with environmental and reliability testing for harsh operating environments
  • Experience supporting manufacturing introduction and production test development
