Location: South Deerfield

Mechanical Engineer III

The Mechanical Engineer III is responsible for supporting manufacturing processes at the Covestro South Deerfield Site. This includes the implementation of capital and reliability projects to allow for the safe, responsible, and efficient production of both Thermoplastic Polyurethane and Polycarbonate films. The salary range for this position is between $89,500 - $127,800. This is a full‑time role that includes competitive pay, annual bonus potential, generous paid time off, 401(k) with company match, retirement contribution, tuition reimbursement, parental leave and medical, dental and vision coverage (no waiting period).

Major

Responsibilities
  • Integrate the site's incident‑free workplace culture into all activities;
  • Manage mid‑level safety related projects and actively participate on‑site safety teams;
  • Investigate and propose solutions for standard safety related concerns;
  • Manage Change activities for standard process and project activities;
  • Routinely lead small and medium‑level site capital projects on time and within budget, and participate in large site improvement projects;
  • Provide necessary engineering support to complex capital and continual improvement projects across the site;
  • Use tools for managing the site annual capital budget and participate in longer‑term planning;
  • Identify improvement projects and opportunities at the site;
  • Provide technical support to the production and maintenance teams in a 24/7 manufacturing environment;
  • Develop and utilize root cause analysis techniques to identify issues with processing equipment or reliability problems;
  • Provide day‑to‑day support of production for troubleshooting during start‑up of new equipment;
  • Update Standard Operating Procedures and provide operator training activities for capital project activities;
  • Understand the business and economic drivers for the site and for their projects.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering degree and at least 6 years in a manufacturing or engineering environment;
  • OR Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering degree and at least 2 years in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CAD, Project, SAP experience desirable;
  • 6+ years in a manufacturing or engineering environment;
  • Advanced degree desirable but not required;
  • Professional registrations and/or certifications are desirable;
  • Thermoplastic film extrusion and web handling experience;
  • Project management of various size and scope projects;
  • Microsoft Office products knowledge;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, active listening skills, ability to communicate openly and effectively, providing timely and relevant feedback to facilitate appropriate actions by self and others;
  • Relates well to people at all levels and possesses balanced sensitivity to safety, employee concerns, and business needs;
  • Ability to function as a peer in a team environment and lead cross‑functional teams to ensure timely delivery of results;
  • Diligent and conscientious worker, self‑motivated, self‑starter and possessing self‑directive capabilities.
