Position: Lead Engineer, Commissioning (Hybrid)
Location: Hooksett

This position is responsible for the development and implementation of plans and procedures for the testing and commissioning of highly complex transmission and distribution substation projects. It works closely with System Test and Protection & Controls Engineering to develop project test and commissioning plans, focusing on safety and eliminating issues and errors during the commission process. The role oversees commissioning of substation equipment as individual units (e.g., breakers, transformers) as well as overall project commission including controls, systems, relays, and metering.

It also optimizes the cost and performance of transmission/distribution system assets, coordinates evaluation of system failures, and supports operations on unplanned maintenance. Additionally, the position contributes to the development of the organization’s Life Cycle Plan and supervises, assigns, prioritizes, and directs the work of other engineers, with potential on‑call responsibilities.

Essential Functions
  • Ensure complex substation projects are tested and commissioned in accordance with industry and Eversource standards, focusing on safety and system reliability.
  • Assist in developing standards and procedures for the test and commissioning of substation projects.
  • Collaborate with engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.
  • Accountable for root‑cause analysis, development, and implementation of corrective actions related to project commissioning.
  • Manage, coach, develop, and review performance of engineers and other staff.
  • Supervise, administratively and/or functionally, engineers and other direct reports as assigned.
  • Provide technical support and direction to operating areas relative to system priorities, engineering guidelines, and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.
Technical Knowledge / Skill
  • Electrical engineering knowledge with a focus on substation project testing and commissioning.
Education
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
Experience
  • Minimum of eight (8) years in utility distribution/transmission engineering.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid CT/MA driver's license.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in both office and utility substation environments, requiring sitting, standing, walking, and climbing stairs.
  • Must be available to work emergency storm assignments as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
