Key Responsibilities
- Manages multiple project components or independently oversees complex portions of larger automation initiatives.
- Leads small to mid-sized projects within their engineering discipline.
- Applies advanced knowledge across one or more automation or engineering domains to support team and organizational objectives.
- Operates as an experienced professional capable of working independently with minimal direction.
- Collaborates with production teams and leadership to drive continuous improvement in automated processes.
- Communicates technical concepts clearly to engineering peers, operations personnel, and leadership.
- Works effectively with internal teams and external suppliers to resolve automation challenges.
- Incorporates customer or stakeholder requirements into system designs and project plans.
- Troubleshoots and resolves intermediate-level issues with existing automation systems.
- Partners with operators, technicians, and vendors to diagnose and correct system malfunctions.
- Reads and interprets engineering documentation including schematics, drawings, datasheets, and technical reports.
- Implements operating procedures, resolves system issues, and provides technical guidance to support safe and efficient operation.
- Provides training and ongoing support for automated equipment and manufacturing systems.
- Prioritizes work based on evolving operational needs and project requirements.
- Creates schematics, mechanical layouts, and work instructions for projects ranging from simple upgrades to full system builds.
- Sources components and prepares specifications for materials, equipment, and automation hardware.
- Uses engineering design tools and software to model, simulate, and document automation solutions.
- Programs and troubleshoots PLCs, industrial PCs, HMIs, drives, robots, and related control elements.
- Integrates hardware and software components within control systems.
- Designs and works with low‑voltage and high‑power electrical elements.
- Uses standard electrical tools to build, modify, and troubleshoot control panels and automation equipment.
- Preferred familiarity with comparable platforms such as:
- PLCs, motion control systems, HMIs
- Industrial safety devices and sensors
- Industrial robots (e.g., ABB, Fanuc or similar)
- HMI/SCADA software (e.g., Ignition, Factory Talk View or similar)
- Integrates mechanical subsystems within automated equipment.
- Designs and fabricates mechanical components for automation cells.
- Uses standard mechanical tools to build, repair, and troubleshoot automated systems.
- Preferred familiarity with:
- Welding and fabrication
- 3D printing and prototyping
- Sheet metal and weldment design
- CAD and CAM software
- Requires deep technical knowledge and substantial hands‑on experience.
- Solves complex problems and introduces new perspectives using established engineering methods.
- Actively expands technical and operational expertise.
- Works independently with limited guidance.
- Serves as a resource and mentor for less experienced engineers.
- Represents a senior‑level engineering role that may serve as a long‑term career level.
- Bachelor’s degree with 6–9+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 3–6+ years of experience, or Associate/Technical degree with 8–12+ years of experience.
