The Town of Windham (population 16,000+) located in Southern New Hampshire’s I-93 corridor is seeking a part-time Building Inspector to work without a set schedule on an as needed basis to support the Community Development Department during periods of high construction activity. This position plays an important role in ensuring that construction in Windham meets the standards of the adopted New Hampshire Building Codes and applicable State statutes.
Working under the direction of the Community Development Director and in coordination with the full-time Building Inspector/Health Officer the Building Inspector performs a variety of field inspections including building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and septic bed bottom inspections. The role requires strong technical judgment, independence, and the ability to communicate effectively with contractors, property owners, and Town staff.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in construction, the building trades, engineering, or architecture, with prior inspection experience considered a plus. Candidates should have knowledge of building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, septic, health, and life-safety codes, along with familiarity with modern construction methods, materials, and tools. The role requires strong written and verbal communication skills and the capacity to prepare concise inspection reports.
Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to work effectively with contractors, residents, and colleagues in high-pressure situations.
Position is subject to background investigation and reference checks. This is an hourly non-exempt weekday position with a pay range of $38.39 – $46.67 per hour. Starting pay is dependent on qualifications.
