A privately held investment and operating enterprise in the Seacoast of NH is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead a team responsible for accounting, financial reporting, and operational finance activities. This position reports directly to senior finance leadership and plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and effectiveness of financial operations across a diverse portfolio of entities.
Responsibilities:Accounting
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and intercompany transactions and eliminations.
- Oversee accounting activities for a large portfolio of entities, including trusts, operating businesses, nonprofit organizations, and holding companies.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial, budgetary, and operational records.
- Maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal policies.
- Prepare and review financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports, and profitability analyses.
- Analyze historical and current financial performance, trends, costs, revenues, commitments, and obligations.
- Provide meaningful financial insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Support management decision-making through clear interpretation of financial data and results.
- Coordinate and consolidate financial data during the annual budgeting process.
- Maintain forecasts and planning models within financial systems.
- Analyze budget-to-actual variances and provide reporting and recommendations as needed.
- Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic financial matters, including resource allocation, capital utilization, process improvements, policy development, and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen financial processes, and support organizational objectives.
- Manage and develop a team of accounting professionals.
- Provide coaching, performance management, and guidance to support team effectiveness and professional growth.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience.
- At least 2 years of experience supervising or managing staff.
- Experience overseeing accounting for multiple legal entities.
- CPA designation is preferred but not required.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial reporting expertise.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software platforms.
- Experience with investment accounting, wealth management reporting systems, or similar financial applications is a plus.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, particularly related to investments, operating businesses, and intercompany accounting.
