School District Treasurer
The Chester School District is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy in the position of Treasurer. The treasurer is an elected position with a three-year term; however, under New Hampshire law, the School Board may appoint an individual to serve until the next school district election.
The treasurer is responsible for safeguarding and accounting for all School District funds in accordance with New Hampshire law. This important role provides independent oversight of district financial transactions and works collaboratively with district administration and the School Board to support sound fiscal management.
Qualifications
- Must be a registered voter of Chester, NH. (RSA 671:18)
- May not be a member of the School Board. (RSA 195:5, II)
- Experience or expertise in bookkeeping, accounting, banking, finance, auditing, or fiscal management is preferred.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality, and financial stewardship.
Financial Custody and Disbursement
- Maintain custody of all School District funds. (RSA 197:23-a, I)
- Disburse funds upon authorization of the School Board. (RSA 197:23-a, I)
- Deposit School District funds in financial institutions authorized by the School Board. (RSA 197:23-a, I)
- Maintain district bank and credit card accounts and assign authorized access as approved by the School Board or Superintendent.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of all funds received and disbursed by the School District, including any notes or other obligations issued by the district. (RSA 197:23-a, III)
- Review bank statements and reconcile accounts on a monthly basis.
- Maintain a register of all bonds issued by the School District, if applicable. (RSA 197:23-a, III)
- Prepare and submit the annual Treasurer's Report to the School Board when requested. (RSA 197:23-a, III)
- Provide financial records, reports, and supporting documentation to the School Board and external auditors as requested. (RSA 197:23-a, III)
- With approval of the School Board, invest district funds not immediately needed for expenditure in accordance with School Board policy and applicable statutory requirements. (RSA 197:23-a, II, IV, V)
- Appoint, with School Board approval, a Deputy Treasurer. (RSA 197:24-a)
- Collaborate with the Superintendent, Finance Manager, School Board, and auditors to ensure sound fiscal management and compliance with applicable laws.
- Perform other duties required by law or assigned by the Business Administrator.

Salary:
$3700 annual stipend
