Position: Behavior Specialist/BCBA - Intensive Needs Program

Description

SUMMARY

With supervision and support, provides behavioral services to individual students as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, within MSB’s Intensive Program.

ACCOUNTABILITIES Essential Functions
  • Conducts Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and works with IEP teams to develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP); provides IEP teams with consultation and training regarding implementation of the BIP.
  • Monitors the integrity of BIP implementation and data collection.
  • Maintains records, participates in interdisciplinary teams, and attends designated meetings.
  • Provides consultation and support to students, staff, parents, and community-based professionals.

  • CONDITIONS

    :
    Selected test materials, stop watch/timers, personal computer/laptop, telephone, walkie-talkie.

    Performance Standard
    :
    Must consistently demonstrate clinical competence in all areas of performance within the Ethical Code for Behavior Analysts.

    Work Environment
    :
    Multiple indoor and occasional outdoor environments, on and off campus, with a variety of sound, lighting, and temperature conditions.

    Work Schedule
    : 35 daytime hours per week. Additional time may be required for job completion. Flextime scheduling may occur. This position has an annual 11-month schedule.

    Requirements QUALIFICATIONS
  • Masters or Doctoral degree in ABA, psychology, or special education.
  • Board certified Behavior Analyst (preferred) or Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral (preferred). Candidates actively working toward BCBA certification with applicable experience will be considered.
  • Must possess and maintain certification as a Licensed Behavior Analyst in the state of Maryland (or obtain upon BCBA certification).
  • Must have completed applicable Supervisor training through the BACB in order to supervise Registered Behavior Technicians (or complete upon BCBA certification).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of conducting and interpreting results of Functional Behavior Assessments and Functional Analyses.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of data collection, functional assessment, and behavior modification techniques.
  • General knowledge of normal and abnormal human development, including a general knowledge of the impact of children's psychosocial problems on learning and classroom behavior.
  • Experience working with complex learners, including those with significant cognitive disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other comorbid conditions impacting learning, communication, and behavior.
  • Familiarity with current research and directions in Applied Behavior Analysis specific to assent-based strategies, trauma-informed care, and the treatment of severe problem behavior.
  • Basic computer skills related to common office functions (e.g. email, online searches, using Microsoft Office).
  • Flexibility with regard to daily routine, caseload, and responsibilities.
  • After the six months in this position, the employee will have:

  • General knowledge of: visual impairment/blindness relative to testing and social-emotional development; behavioral management techniques used with students with multiple disabilities; IDEA regulations and service implications; MSB policies and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of MSDE regulations regarding the provision of psychological services.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Safety Care Trainer Training and/or Specialist Training completed.
