Occupational Therapist - Inpatient | Per Diem

Description:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Rehabilitation and Diagnostics Services, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for administering Occupational Therapy services including evaluations, establishment/modification of treatment plans, provision/supervision of treatment, and documentation to inpatients and outpatients within departmental and facility policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Greets and welcomes all patients by name with a smile and at the anticipated/scheduled time.
  • Ensures thorough documentation with all patients in accordance with departmental policies and patient insurance requests.
  • Completes and edits own charges daily to help ensure accuracy.
  • Participates in mandatory competencies yearly and monthly chart audits.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing publications, networking, and providing in‑service training.
  • Validates provider prescription prior to evaluation and treatment, and calls the provider if clarification is needed.
  • Performs evaluations and reevaluations per departmental policies.
  • Evaluates effects of treatments and splinting devices by observation, noting progress, and recommends adjustments.
  • Uses objective measures on all evaluations and documents findings; writes measurable/functional goals based on these findings.
  • Develops treatment plans based on clinical findings, patient input, and provider orders.
  • Ensures the treatment plan addresses patient needs—age, physical, psychological, and learning—and encourages patient participation.
  • Utilizes therapeutic exercise, functional training, manual therapy techniques, assistive/adaptive devices, equipment, and modalities (with appropriate PAMS license); follows department guidelines.
  • Educates patients about diagnoses, goals, progression, and discharge plan.
  • Completes discharge planning with referring providers, nurses, social workers, and other health‑care workers; contributes to care conferences.
  • Designs home exercise programs and instructs patients, families, and caregivers; recommends assistive equipment and outpatient/home care options.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements; stays informed on legislation; enforces adherence and advises management.
  • Stays current with insurance demands, restrictions, authorizations, and informs patients of limits.
  • Taught/led occupational therapy students and other health‑profession students; educated other providers and the public about OT.
  • Directs and supervises COTAs, delegating specific patients and establishing communication; travels to other hospital sites as needed.
  • Consults and collaborates with other health professionals for overall patient wellbeing.
  • Attends work daily, on time, and completes scheduled shifts; maintains attendance as an essential function.
  • Facilitates HIPAA compliance to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Communicates effectively, listens actively, respects colleagues, and fosters a service‑excellence culture.
  • Makes appropriate interpersonal relationships with staff, patients, and visitors; works as a team member across departments.
  • Practices workplace safety daily.
  • Participates in hospital Service Excellence initiatives and trainings.
  • Attends at least 50% of department staff meetings and signs off on 100% of meeting minutes.
  • Completes all required annual education by the due date.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities:

    minimal physical effort with occasional light lifting up to 25 lbs; manages mental stress; communicates effectively; proficient with computers.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Experience:

    3–5 years in hospital and outpatient settings.
  • License and Certification:
    Licensed in NH by the NH State Board of Allied Health; BLS required.
