Position Summary

Viskase Loudon is located conveniently and a short drive from Knoxville, TN. We are actively seeking a proactive and dynamic plant HR Manager to lead HR initiatives for our mid‑sized manufacturing facility in Loudon, TN. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for an innovative HR leader with experience in a union plant environment. The ideal candidate will be a proven team and relationship builder, skilled in guiding supervisors and employees through change and continuous improvements.

During your initial 90 days, you will immerse yourself in the plant environment, gaining a deep understanding of plant operations and familiarizing yourself with the collective bargaining agreement. Building strong relationships with the plant team, including supervisors and employees, will be a key focus. Developing a close partnership and advisory relationship with the Plant Manager is critical for successfully executing personnel‑related policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • HR Business Partnering: Demonstrate a well‑rounded HR Business Partner background, contributing to the development and execution of HR strategies that align with the plant's overall objectives.
  • Union Negotiations: Utilize your experience in union negotiations to maintain positive working relationships within a unionized plant environment. This includes actively engaging in collective bargaining agreement (CBA) discussions.
  • Team Building: Proven ability to build and lead effective teams, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. Provide guidance to supervisors and employees, supporting them through various HR processes.
  • Change Management: Showcase your skills in guiding the workforce through changes, ensuring smooth transitions and continuous improvement.
  • Statutory Compliance: Oversee compliance with federal, state, and local laws and guidelines. Stay informed about changes in regulations and implement necessary adjustments to HR policies and procedures.
  • Performance Management: Implement and manage performance management processes, ensuring fair and consistent practices across the plant.
  • Training and Development: Develop and execute training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of employees, contributing to the overall growth and success of the workforce.
Education and Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or Organizational Development/Industrial Relations.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years' previous HR experience in a unionized manufacturing plant or distribution environment with a preference for experience as an HR Manager or Senior Generalist.
  • Collective Bargaining: Proven experience in 1st chair negotiations and interpreting a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Leadership

    Skills:

    Demonstrated leadership, management, and communication skills.
  • Legal Compliance: Strong working knowledge of local/state/federal employment regulations and laws, including Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the American Disability Act (ADA).
  • Recruitment: Full life cycle recruiting experience for salaried employees and familiarity with the hourly recruiting process.
  • Consultation Expertise: Expertise in providing insightful HR consultation to location leaders and employees.
  • Coaching and Mentoring: Ability to objectively coach, influence, and mentor employees and management through complex or difficult issues.
  • Decision-Making: Knack for making quick and accurate decisions to solve problems or reach goals.
  • Policy Adherence: Ability to work within existing policy structures to meet the needs of management and employees.

    Skills:

    Demonstrated advanced skills with the standard features of various programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
