Overview of the Role: Working under the general supervision of the Senior Director, Data Engineering, the Principal Data Engineer performs complex data and application integration activities as the highest technical level in support of all corporate information systems across multiple database platforms. Responsibilities include partnering with business stakeholders to design solutions for new or modified database systems, and integrating database systems.

The Principal acts as a technical design and development lead on large projects, guiding other resources and promoting process improvement. Trains and mentors less experienced developers through formal knowledge transfer and one-on-one sessions. Leads complex production support initiatives and applies long-term solutions as appropriate.

• Develops database integration solutions including requirement specifications, impact analysis, functional and technical design, programming, documentation, testing, data conversion, and implementation.
• Analyzes functional requirements to design and build technical solutions.
• Analyzes data and develops logical solutions to problems.
• Establishes development estimates and meets agreed-upon target dates.
• Provides accurate scope analysis and estimates for large projects.
• Completes documentation of technical specifications, deployment documents and support procedure manuals.
• Establishes and maintains partnerships with various lines of business to facilitate system design and support activities, and collaborates with IT teams on projects and production support.
• Leads complex production support initiatives and applies long-term solutions as appropriate.
• Leads development initiatives as technical lead; fills in for the manager as needed.
• Leads technical resources on major projects, including design sessions and development activities.
• Provides technical leadership and mentoring to help developers improve their skills.
