Position Summary

The Director of Technology is responsible for implementing school district policies and procedures related to technology, developing and managing the technology budget and supervising the computer technicians in collaboration with building administrators. The Director of Technology is responsible for all components of the district’s computer networks, including network and data security and telecommunications connectivity including Internet, telephone and email accessibility. The Director maintains the integrity of computer network infrastructure throughout the school district.

This person oversees the installation and maintenance of computers and computer related hardware and evaluates and recommends hardware and software purchases and maintains a focus on using technology to support the various planned educational programs provided to students. The Director maintains effective working relationships with administrators and staff, works under pressure, prioritizes tasks, and quickly adjusts to changes in scheduled plans.

The Director actively pursues the training and skills necessary to support the district’s computer systems, networks and related software. This person effectively supervises and evaluates the computer technicians and works collaboratively with school administrators and teachers.

Qualifications
  • Any combination equivalent to a four‑year degree in computer technology.
  • Completion of an extensive technology training program.
  • Successful experience in a technology‑focused organization.
  • Extensive experience with the use of computers and computer‑related hardware.
  • Extensive experience using the latest Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience providing service to users of technology.
  • Extensive experience using the latest Google systems and Google Suite products.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with central office and building administration, supervise the implementation of the district’s technology policies.
  • Ensure effective implementation of the district’s ICT program and development of student electronic portfolios.
  • Provide emergency response to mission‑critical system failures as deemed necessary.
  • Provide the Superintendent with an updated, detailed diagram of the network’s design and an updated list of all security codes and passwords for network servers, alliances, and related devices protected by passwords.
  • Prepare user‑friendly instructions in the operation of hardware and applicable software.
  • Provide ongoing training to improve the capacity of the technology support staff.
  • Propose effective uses of technology to the district’s professional staff.
  • Provide occasional training programs for district employees in the use of computer hardware and software.
  • Maintain network integrity and security.
  • Maintain and oversee data protection and privacy from personal information in regards to acceptable use of software.
  • Maintain an effective network and desktop management system, a retrievable backup system for all users, and an effective disaster recovery system.
  • Maintain required archives of all communications over the network using a searchable archiving system.
  • Maintain fully functional network hardware including servers, appliances and related devices, and network software systems.
  • Maintain an accurate and up‑to‑date inventory of the district’s hardware and software.
  • With the technology support staff, provide all users with timely and effective assistance in the use of hardware and software.
  • Perform network troubleshooting to quickly and efficiently isolate, diagnose and remedy network problems.
  • Provide advanced hardware technical assistance and support, troubleshoot and resolve system hardware and communications failures and conflicts.
  • Arrange for the maintenance, repair or replacement of hardware.
