We are seeking an experienced Automation & Field IT Technician to install, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial automation and field IT systems at customer and production sites. The role blends hands-on industrial control work: SCADA, PLCs, VFDs and related hardware with network and Windows OS support, remote access (VPN) configuration, and preventive maintenance to ensure reliable plant operations. The technician will collaborate with engineering, operations, and IT teams, respond to field service calls, and support continuous improvement and cybersecurity practices.
Key Responsibilities:

- Program, tune, troubleshoot and maintain VFDs and motor control systems to optimize performance and reliability.
- Support SCADA/HMI systems: deploy updates, troubleshoot communication issues, manage tags/screens, and perform backups and restorations.
- Deploy and maintain industrial network infrastructure (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet): configure switches, routers, and firewalls for secure and reliable connectivity.
- Configure and support VPN remote access, secure tunneling and remote diagnostic tools for field devices and HMIs.
- Provide Windows OS support for field workstations, HMIs, and server-side components: troubleshooting, patching coordination, and system recovery.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, site inspections, and root-cause analysis of automation failures.
- Document work performed, update system drawings and asset records, maintain PLC/SCADA change logs and create service reports.
- Participate in on-call rotation to respond to emergency field incidents and minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with engineering and IT teams to implement cybersecurity best practices, firmware updates, and secure device configurations.
- Train operations staff on routine troubleshooting steps, safe operation of control systems, and basic IT hygiene.
- Support spare parts inventory management and coordinate parts ordering and logistics for field deployments.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years field experience working with industrial automation equipment including PLCs, SCADA and VFDs.
- Hands-on experience with common PLC platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider) and familiarity with ladder logic, function block, or structured text programming.
- Proven knowledge of SCADA/HMI systems and best practices for deployment, backup, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet) and network device configuration.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting VPNs, firewalls, and remote access tools in industrial environments.
- Proficiency with Windows OS (client and server) and common diagnostic tools; experience with patching and system recovery.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles for OT/IT convergence and secure device configuration.
- Relevant certifications a plus: CCNA, CompTIA Network+/A+, vendor PLC certifications, or equivalent.
- Valid drivers license, willingness to travel to customer sites and work in industrial environments; ability to lift up to 50 lbs and follow safety procedures.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and customer service skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
