Location: Amherst
Vertx Manufacturing is seeking a highly skilled 5-Axis CNC Setup Technician / Team Lead to support production of precision‑machined components. This is a senior, hands‑on role responsible for machine setup, process stability, mentoring operators, and driving quality and efficiency on the shop floor.
We are looking for someone who can independently take a print, set up the machine, run first article, and hand off a stable, repeatable process to production.
Key Responsibilities- Perform full setups on 5-axis CNC mills (3+2 positioning required; simultaneous experience not required)
- Interpret complex blueprints and GD&T
- Set tooling, fixtures, offsets, and probing routines
- Prove out new jobs and support first article inspections
- Troubleshoot dimensional, tooling, and process issues
- Optimize setups to reduce downtime and increase spindle utilization
- Maintain process consistency and repeatability
- Mentor operators and junior machinists
- Communicate effectively with engineering and management regarding process improvements
- 7+ years CNC machining experience
- 3+ years experience setting up multi‑axis CNC mills (4th or 5th axis)
- Strong understanding of GD&T and tight tolerance machining
- Ability to independently complete complex setups without supervision
- Experience with in‑process inspection (micrometers, bore gages, height gage, etc.)
- Experience machining aluminum and stainless steel components
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and problem solve at the machine
- Experience in a high‑mix job shop environment
- Experience mentoring or leading other machinists
- Exposure to lean manufacturing or process improvement initiatives
- Someone who takes ownership of the job
