Electrical Technician II
The Electrical Technician II supports the Electrical Supervisor and Plant leadership by performing a wide range of electrical wiring, assembly, and testing activities on industrial equipment and control systems. This role focuses on wiring panels, modifying electrical cabinets, connecting components on machines, crimping lugs, and testing electrical cabinets in alignment with established quality and safety standards. The technician collaborates closely with the electrical team to ensure reliable, compliant, and efficient electrical systems for each project.
Responsibilities
- Support the Electrical Supervisor in all aspects of electrical wiring and assembly for assigned projects.
- Wire electrical panels, control cabinets, and machine components according to blueprints, wiring diagrams, and device data sheets.
- Build and assemble control systems and power supplies, ensuring proper connections and adherence to industry standards.
- Modify and rework electrical cabinets and assemblies as required to meet project specifications and design changes.
- Perform point-to-point wiring and continuity testing on complex systems to verify correct connections and system integrity.
- Install, connect, and terminate wires, cables, and components, including crimping lugs and preparing conductors.
- Set up and test controls instrumentation, including sensors, actuators, and related control components.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues in control systems, power supplies, and machine wiring to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Work with industrial PLCs and HMIs under guidance, assisting with wiring, integration, and basic functional testing.
- Apply knowledge of NFPA and NEC standards to ensure electrical work meets safety and compliance requirements.
- Safely work with and test VAC and DC electrical circuits using appropriate testing and metering devices.
- Interpret and follow blueprints, wiring diagrams, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics, and related technical documentation.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and controls team members to complete projects efficiently and accurately.
- Document work performed, test results, and any modifications made to panels, cabinets, or systems.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, consistently following safety protocols and company procedures.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and team members regarding project status, issues, and improvements.
- Work both independently and as part of a team to meet project deadlines and production schedules.
- Demonstrate a strong focus on quality and safety in all tasks, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of related work experience as an electrical technician or in a similar electrical assembly role.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic assembly skills.
- Ability to perform point-to-point testing on complex electrical and control systems.
- Experience with wiring and assembly of control systems and power supplies.
- Ability to install, connect, and troubleshoot electrical wiring and components on machines and control panels.
- Familiarity with industrial PLCs and HMIs.
- Ability to set up and test controls instrumentation.
- Knowledge of industry standards such as NFPA and NEC.
- Solid understanding of VAC and DC electrical circuits and the ability to work with and safely test these circuits.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, wiring diagrams, and device data sheets.
- Understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems and related control components.
- Proficiency in using electrical testing and metering devices.
- Proficiency with Windows operating systems and MS Office software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Professional demeanor with strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently.
- Demonstrated solid work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Consistent focus on safety and quality in all work activities.
