Roll Press Operator

TSG - The Sheridan Group seeks a skilled Press Rollstand Operator to support our Manufacturing & Production team in a fast-paced environment. The Operator will set up, load, and align paper rolls, monitor web tension, and ensure smooth, safe press operation. Responsibilities include performing basic maintenance, troubleshooting roll feed issues, minimizing waste and downtime, and following strict quality and safety standards.

The ideal candidate has prior experience in a manufacturing or print environment, strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively on a high-performance production team.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and monitor press roll stands to support printing production according to job specifications
• Load, splice, and thread paper or other substrates through the rollstand and press to ensure continuous operation
• Monitor web tension, alignment, and registration, making adjustments to minimize waste and maintain quality
• Inspect materials and printed output for defects, color consistency, and conformance to standards
• Perform basic mechanical adjustments, cleaning, and preventive maintenance on roll stands and associated equipment
• Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and proper material handling practices
• Coordinate with press operators, production supervisors, and maintenance staff to meet production schedules and resolve equipment issues
• Accurately read and follow job tickets, production schedules, and standard operating procedures
• Document production data, downtime, material usage, and quality checks in the production system
• Assist with changeovers, roll changes, and press startups and shutdowns to maximize efficiency
