Responsibilities can vary depending on the work setting and state regulations, but commonly include:
- Monitoring patient health:
Regularly checking vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration, and observing patients for changes in condition. - Providing basic care and comfort:
Assisting patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) like bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility. - Administering medications and treatments:
Giving prescribed oral, topical, and injectable medications, performing basic wound care (cleaning and bandaging), and inserting catheters. - Documentation and communication:
Accurately documenting patient care, updating health records, and reporting patient status and concerns to RNs or physicians.
