USNH Employees should apply within Workday through the Jobs Hub app Laboratory Technician position for the Ernakovich and SoilBioME Lab group for 10hrs/week. Technician will analyze microbial communities and biogeochemical properties of permafrost soil samples under supervision of lab manager(s) and research staff . Technician will also assist with lab maintenance tasks such as chemical inventory management , dishwashing, and hazardous waste disposal.
Training will be provided for lab specific protocols for DNA Extraction , PCR amplification , enzyme assays , foreign soil protocols an d biogeochemical soil characterization .
Job Duties Microbial Soil Assays ( 60%)DNA ExtractionPCR and Gel Electrophoresis Enzyme Assays Lab Maintenance (30%)Cleaning Dishing Autoclaving labware and foreign soil waste
Updating chemical inventory and properly disposing of chemical waste
Keeping lab notebook (10%)Keep complete and organized lab notebook
Communicate results and issues promptly and clearly with lab manager/research staff
Update lab protocols as needed
Other Expectations:
Commit to consistent work schedule, arrive on time, and communicate needed schedule changes 24 working hours in advance.
Communicate clearly and promptly
Work with a group in a shared lab space
