Overview
We are seeking a strong Financial Analyst / Accountant interested in applying their expertise to a small engineering company supporting primarily Federal government contracts and clients. This critical role involves day to day management of the company accounting cycle, including maintenance of our accounting system and management of our funding vehicles. This multi-dimensional candidate will enjoy a variety of tasks throughout the month.
As a key member of the Finance & Accounting team, you will work in a collaborative environment across a variety of financial areas fostering innovation and continuous learning. You will work very closely with our Contracts Manager to ensure funding data and contractual constraints are maintained in our accounting system and entered in a timely manner.
- Understand and reconcile Balance Sheet and Income Statement accounts, including the ability to reconcile them monthly and research to explain outstanding issues or concerns.
- Maintain depreciation schedule for fixed assets and reconcile to outside accountants’ records.
- Reconcile credit card accounts, bank statements and checking accounts.
- Support day to day administration of our PROCAS accounting system:
- Update accounting system to reflect active jobs.
- Generate job numbers and project work authorizations for staff labor and expenses.
- Work closely with Contracts Manager to ensure the accounting system is kept aligned with all prime and subcontract modifications as they are processed.
- Complete monthly internal financial close reports to report financial facts to management.
- Provide incurred cost reports, cost projections, and financial analysis to project managers and Cardinal leadership as requested.
- Close the company books monthly and process a mid-month interim close.
- Support company bid and proposal efforts during peak proposal periods.
- Support ad-hoc internal and external financial projects and audits as requested by management.
- Assist with annual budget preparation for revenue and direct or indirect costs.
- Participate in data collection / response preparation for any outside audits.
- Process company payroll bi-weekly through our payroll system.
- Work with our outside tax accountant to coordinate responses to streamline the preparation of our annual tax returns.
- Assist in processing company travel claims according to applicable JTR/FTR regulations.
- Assist in processing Accounts Payable (AP) transactions if required.
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of related experience. An exception would be made for extended government contracts, finance and accounting experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently to complete tasks on time.
- Ability to juggle multiple commitments as part of a fast-paced, dynamic small business.
- Ability to collaborate and establish relationships internally and externally.
- Highly proficient with MS products, specifically Excel.
- Must be proficient and comfortable with math concepts and possess an analytical mind.
- Candidates must be based in the U.S. Eastern time zone and, if not local to CT/PA/MD, be willing to travel to Cardinal facilities as required (minimal travel).
- Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and should have excellent communication skills both written and oral and be able to work well without supervision.
- Salary commensurate with years and applicability of experience ranging from $100K - $120K.
