OverviewUnder the general direction of the Associate Director of Finance, and with considerable latitude for discretion and independent judgement, provides financial and administrative support to the Departments of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences and Urology, as part of the Surgical Specialties IBO. This position supports business office functions including but not limited to initiation, review and approval of Workday transactions, processing of journal entries and payroll adjustments, procurement card monitoring and compliance, management and submission of Monthly Financial Review documents.
Responsible for providing financial information through the interpretation, analysis, reporting and reconciliation of data. Converts financial data into the useful information that guides unit and/or university leadership to make informed decisions. Recommends improvements to systems, methods, practices, policies, and procedures through information review. Serves as initial contact for department faculty and staff for all Business Office concerns and inquiries. The Accountant 2 is responsible for providing accurate financial information through the interpretation, analysis, reporting, and reconciliation of data.
This role requires converting financial data into useful information to guide leadership in making informed decisions. Key responsibilities include overseeing day‑to‑day financial operations, performing reconciliations, and recommending improvements to systems, methods, and practices. The position entails analyzing financial reports, preparing budgets and forecasts, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The accountant also provides high‑level customer service and support, effectively communicates with stakeholders, and maintains robust internal controls to manage financial risks.
Skills And Abilities
- Strong analytical, accounting, and financial management skills with the ability to resolve complex issues independently.
- Comprehensive knowledge of accounting theory and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word in addition to YBT and Workday.
- Ability to analyze issues, respond and solve problems and follow through to ensure successful completion of projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with well‑developed interpersonal abilities to work effectively with diverse groups.
- Possess sound independent judgement, intuition, and common sense with excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritize and handle many tasks simultaneously in a complex, fast‑paced environment.
Skills And Abilities
- Experience with grant management and financial reporting analysis in a university or non‑profit environment.
- Demonstrated ability with data analysis tools and financial software, and expertise in accounting theory and compliance matters.
- Financial Analysis and Reporting:
Analyzes information and creates accurate and timely reports that add value to the management of University operations. Applies GAAP to report out on financial conditions. Ensures financial reporting meets the compliance needs of internal and external users. Extracts data from multiple sources.
