EH&N Construction, a subsidiary of First Hartford Corporation, is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead, direct, and coordinate the work of subcontractors and/or corporate trade laborers at an occupied multi-family property in New Haven. This Construction Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring the safety, delivery schedule, quality of work, and adherence to the budget of the project are maintained. They may have supervisory responsibility for Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, and trade laborers in their area of responsibility.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee and make decisions related to the performance of work related to preconstruction, scheduling, delivery, logistics, quality control and trade employee staffing levels.
  • Oversee work among assigned trades to promote coordinated project operations. Resolving local area problems regarding procedures, precedence, design clarifications, adequate labor and equipment schedule and all other appropriate matters.
  • Manage the overall site safety program as required and ensuring subcontractor compliance with industry standards and all applicable safety codes and regulations.
  • Supervise and develop Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, and/or trade labor, as assigned.
  • Create and manage schedules and determine sequencing of work. Develop and implement recovery strategies to maintain project schedule.
  • Communicate with owners and architects/engineers in connection with field issues. Investigate and resolve such issues.
  • Assist with management of the billing process as it relates to work in place and oversee the monthly estimate of work completed, payrolls, material invoices and subcontractor payment applications.
  • Manage the work to ensure that it is installed in compliance with and conforms to the approved contract documents.
  • Assist in day-to-day administrative activities including but not limited to:
    Submittal review, MEP Coordination, daily logs, RFI’s, Scheduling, assist in change order pricing.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Knowledge of building construction means and methods, scheduling and cost control procedures, general contract, general conditions, subcontract documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings specifications, scopes of work and project schedule.
  • Proficiency in EH&S applications.
  • Computer use including Outlook, MS Office Suite, Bluebeam, and CRM based document control software.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to negotiate work areas under construction, climb permanent and temporary stairs and ladders, and passenger use of construction personnel hoists.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear (bells, whistles, etc.), stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

    While performing the duties of this job, the Construction Superintendent will regularly work at the construction site where there is exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. Noise in these work environments ranges from moderate to very loud.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Continuing education in construction highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 4 years of project/construction administration experience preferred.
