Terminal Scale Operator Job Description

The Terminal Scale Operator is the primary point of contact for customers picking up bulk salt and aggregates at our facility and coordinating salt deliveries. This role is crucial for ensuring smooth operations and excellent customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Accurately weigh and ticket trucks using a computerized scale program as they pass over the truck scales.
• Verify loads, collect payments, and record customer job information.
• Answer telephone calls professionally and communicate effectively with truck drivers and loaders using a CB radio.
• Ensure the general upkeep of the Scale House.
• Complete all administrative tasks, including regular filing and required reports.
• Keep the immediate supervisor fully informed of any issues or matters requiring attention.
• Maintain prompt attendance from the required start time of 6:00 am to 5:00 pm, and work overtime and weekends as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including data entry and minor customer service responsibilities.
• Present facts and recommendations effectively in both oral and written form.
• Read, write, and perform basic mathematics. Must be proactive and able to follow simple instructions from oral or written correspondence.
• Being bilingual in English and Spanish is helpful.

Required Qualifications:

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States without Visa sponsorship.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must be able to work in varying environmental conditions (cold/hot).
• Must be detail-oriented and accurate.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
• Pleasant telephone manner.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to multitask in a dynamic work environment.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The work environment involves typical hazards, risks, or discomforts associated with working around machinery with exposed moving parts, chemicals, heavy equipment, extreme heights, or potentially hostile clientele. Exposure to disagreeable weather conditions and extreme levels of temperature, ventilation, lighting, and sound is normal.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
