Chief General Neurology

Overview

Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Neurology, seeks to hire the inaugural section chief of General Neurology at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor.

The section of General Neurology (GN) is being established as its importance in reducing neurologic disease burden and promoting brain health grows among national and international professional organizations. General neurologists are essential for rapid, accessible, cost‑effective, and comprehensive management of patients with neurologic disease in the community where they live. They provide the first contact for patients with neurological symptoms and longitudinal care for many neurological conditions;

for patients with rare diseases lacking a dedicated specialty clinic; and in emergency situations. The GN division includes the Neurology Urgent Access Clinic (NUAC) and the Yale Neurology Resident Clinics. NUAC provides expedited evaluation of patients referred from community physicians and helps decompress emergency departments across the health system. The GN section enhances the efficiency of tertiary subspecialty services by assisting in initial evaluation and care, takes a lead role in educating the next generation of general neurologists, and is core to Yale Medicine/Yale New Haven Health System’s Brain Health Initiative, shifting from a reactive approach to a proactive approach for early disease recognition and prevention.

• Collaborate within the GN division to develop and lead clinical programs (including NUAC and Yale Neurology Resident Clinics) and to provide expedited, efficient care for patients with neurological concerns.
• Lead education and training efforts for the next generation of general neurologists; contribute to program development and quality improvement within the division.
• Support and advance the Yale Medicine/Yale New Haven Health System Brain Health Initiative with a proactive care approach.
• Provide patient care in adult general neurology, with or without subspecialty integration as appropriate, and participate in clinical trials when applicable.
• Engage in departmental and institutional leadership activities as part of the GN section leadership.

• MD or equivalent; board certified or board eligible in Neurology.
• Applicants must meet criteria for medical licensure in the State of Connecticut.
• Faculty rank will be based on experience.
