The Residence Hall Directors are responsible for developing safe, healthy and engaging living and learning environments for students who choose to live on campus. A full-time, twelve-month, live-in position, Residence Hall Directors facilitate students’ development, help them to develop a sense of belonging, promote their overall well-being, respond to their concerns, and support their path to earn a degree. Residence Hall Directors have responsibility for developing a welcoming and inclusive community across the residential experience that promotes academic, social and personal growth of the resident student population.

Position Responsibilities:

Selects, trains, supports, supervises, and evaluates student staff.

Provides leadership for the development and maintenance of positive, equitable, inclusive, and engaging residence hall communities.

Provides leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of programming focused on a holistic student experience.

Provides appropriate response to student concerns and behaviors, including adjudication of policy violations.

Advises, confers, and offers appropriate referrals for students who exhibit academic and personal concerns.

Advises, develops, and supports residence hall councils.

Manages administrative processes and supports the upkeep of residential facilities to ensure clean and healthy living conditions for residents.

Participates in a rotating on-call duty schedule, in addition to other occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.

May have a collaborative experience, including a summer assignment, complementary to the primary duties of this position.

Performs other duties and responsibilities related to these enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree in Student Personnel, Student Affairs, or Higher Education is preferred. Additional requirements include demonstrated commitment and ability to create just, equitable, inclusive communities where students feel welcomed and supported; strong written and verbal communication, organization, and problem-solving skills; ability to work collaboratively with others; effective ability to motivate others and build teams; understanding of and commitment to a holistic approach to college student development.

Preferred experiences, knowledge and/or skills: leadership; supervision; program development and delivery; conflict resolution, restorative justice and mediation. Those who are passionate about working with college students, intrinsically motivated and able to work in a highly dynamic environment are best suited for this position.
