OverviewThe Registrar in the Department of Germanic Languages and Literature is responsible for providing interpretation of academic regulations and maintaining student records. This position involves managing academic records, monitoring student progress, ensuring compliance with academic requirements, and serving as a primary contact for student inquiries.
Responsibilities- Oversee and coordinate administrative, program, and office activities of the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS).
- Serve as primary support for DUS and principal contact for managing degree progress or activities related to registration.
- Monitor student records to ensure compliance with academic regulations and program requirements for graduation using Degree Audit and/or Faculty Student Advising.
- Notify DUS of identified problems for faculty action.
- Coordinate teaching schedules for academic classes and schedule classroom assignments in Course Leaf.
- Assist DUS in analyzing need and determining teaching fellow assignments, including entering information in the Teaching Fellow System (TFS).
- Assist with student academic activities and events.
- Respond to general inquiries and requests for information regarding the academic program.
- Develop expertise on departmental registrar processes and procedures.
- Work independently while taking initiative to complete work under limited supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interpret and explain policies; strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact well with a diverse population including students, faculty, and staff.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment; ability to take initiative, problem‑solve and exercise independent judgment; ability to manage time to be efficient and productive.
- Proficiency in using office software, such as MS Word, Excel, and database systems.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
Education and Experience
- Prior experience in academic or registrar settings, with knowledge of university policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with student information systems, such as Banner, Course Leaf, and Canvas.
