Head Teacher
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education; must hold certification at the pre-kindergarten level with Bachelor's Degree; two years of teaching experience at the pre-kindergarten level is desired

Head Start Project Site Director
Job Goal:
The teacher will maintain and facilitate a learning environment that supports the emotional, physical and intellectual development of each child.
Supervises:
Assistant Teachers and Part-time Assistants and Volunteers
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on evaluation of personnel.
Terms Of Employment:
All recommendations for employment of Head Start Assistant Teachers must be approved by the Head Start Policy Council and New Haven Board of Education. All recommendations for employment of Child Development all School Readiness Teachers must be approved by New Haven Board of Education. Salary: $41,030 - $46,433 Local 3429, Paraprofessionals
Physical Demands Of Job:
Adheres to federal, state and municipal physical health guidelines including immunization, employment physical and required health and safety training. The physical ability to frequently lift, move or hold children with a range of weight from 10-60 pounds (occasionally the job will require lifting, moving or holding children more than 60 pounds). The physical ability to participate in activities that may require lifting, reaching, squatting, climbing and sitting on the floor.
The physical ability to respond quickly to emergencies or unexpected situations. The ability to maintain mental and physical alertness and the appropriate level of energy during the entire day.
Performance Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate classroom environment. Plans, implements and documents curriculum activities in all developmental areas: physical, emotional, social and cognitive Provides experiences and an atmosphere that encourages each child's sense of a positive concept Participates in all planned Early Childhood Staff Development activities, Staff meetings, Work Shops, etc. and takes responsibility for own personal growth.
Maintains a classroom environment that supports and respects the cultural backgrounds, languages, individual interest and learning style of each child Completes a developmental screening on each child Using the Creative Curriculum checklist, completes three assessments of each child's strengths and needs and establishes individual goals for each child Maintains education file on each child Completes three home-visits and school/teacher conferences with parents on an annual basis as required be Early Childhood/Head Start Standards Establishes a partnership with parents, seeks parents input and keep parents aware of the events in the classroom as well as their own child's growth and development Provides activities for parents and works with them to appropriately reinforce, at home, the developmental gains that the child is making in the classroom Participates in weekly Family Review meetings with Social Service staff Attends all family meetings as needed Orders supplies, keeps updated inventory of all center equipment, supplies and materials Attends meetings as required Prepares appropriate reports as needed Performs related duties as required
