DescriptionThe Department Chair is an arts teacher who leads and teaches at ACES' Education Center for the Arts. In addition to providing high-quality arts education, this role includes supervisory responsibilities for their respective faculty, budget development and management. The Department Chair inspires students while also supporting and guiding fellow arts instructors to ensure a cohesive, high-performing arts department.
- Assist in the recruitment, screening, hiring, and assigning of adjunct arts instructors, including reviews of skill sets, artistic expertise, and connections with arts community.
- Collaborate with school administrators to set master schedule regarding course offerings, number of sections, class sizes, teaching assignments and learning spaces required.
- Partner with guidance department for any modifications needed per student's IEP or 504 plan.
- Plan and conduct departmental faculty meetings.
- Attend regular school-wide leadership team planning meetings, weekly, quarterly and annually.
- Submit recommendations to the principal regarding departmental personnel.
- Review annual department faculty goals and revise as needed.
- Attend relevant school, agency, and professional meetings as necessary.
- Work collaboratively with school administrators to create a yearly school-wide calendar of art events, performances and exhibitions.
- Communicate and coordinate with building maintenance custodian and technical director for events and performances.
- Design, coordinate, and supervise arts-specific field trips including reservations, permissions and transportation.
- Seek, interview, recommend and prepare visiting guest artists for workshops, lectures, events and performances.
- Support the guidance counselor in the recruitment of students.
Certified Teacher in Subject Area is Required,
