Supervisor of Secondary Mathematics (Grades 7-12) - Summary

Reports To:

Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

Position Overview

The Supervisor of Secondary Mathematics leads and oversees all district mathematics initiatives for Grades 7-12. This role ensures curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning are aligned with state standards, district goals, culturally responsive practices, and a multi-tiered system of supports. The Supervisor works closely with elementary mathematics leadership, middle school math coaches, and high school math lead teachers to ensure a cohesive and effective mathematics program across the district.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum & Strategic Leadership

* Develop and implement the district's secondary mathematics department plan.

* Lead the design, revision, and evaluation of Grades 7-12 curriculum and assessments.

* Ensure vertical alignment between elementary, middle, and high school mathematics programs.

* Collaborate with Multilingual Learner and Special Education departments to support all learners.

* Advocate for mathematics initiatives and provide leadership on district and state committees.

* Recruit and mentor teachers to support curriculum development and leadership growth.

Instructional Leadership & Staff Development

* Supervise and evaluate mathematics coaches, lead teachers, and departmental staff.

* Strengthen instructional leadership and data-driven practices among Grades 7-8 math coaches.

* Coordinate and support Grades 9-12 math lead teachers.

* Conduct classroom walkthroughs and participate in instructional audits.

* Provide feedback to improve curriculum implementation and instructional effectiveness.

Professional Learning & Data Systems

* Design professional learning opportunities for teachers, coaches, and administrators.

* Develop systems for collecting and analyzing assessment data to support IMTSS implementation.

* Lead summer institutes, new teacher training, and ongoing professional development.

Operations & Resource Management

* Oversee selection, purchasing, inventory, and distribution of mathematics resources and technology.

* Maintain an approved district-wide resource list and manage textbook adoption processes.

* Manage departmental budgets, grants, and external funding opportunities.

Community Engagement & Compliance

* Establish partnerships with universities and community organizations.

* Support extracurricular mathematics programs and student enrichment opportunities.

* Ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.

* Monitor current research and communicate best practices to stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

* Master's degree in Mathematics, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Administration, or related field.

* At least five years of successful mathematics teaching experience.

* Administrative experience (e.g., Principal or Assistant Principal).

* Experience leading secondary curriculum development and implementation.

* Strong leadership, communication, professional learning, and data analysis skills.

* Commitment to educational equity and the mission of New Haven Public Schools.

Required Certifications

* Connecticut Mathematics Certification (e.g., 029 or 229).

* Intermediate Administration or Supervision Certification (092).

Salary & Employment

* 12-month position.

* Local 18, Group G (School Administrators Association of New Haven).

* Minimum starting salary: $159,837.

Evaluation

* Evaluated annually by the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
