Overview

Provides consultation and instruction services in support of research and teaching related to the study of music and develops, manages, and promotes Yale’s library collections.

Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of current developments in information and music librarianship with a proven ability to provide leadership and direction in a research library.
  • In-depth knowledge of music literature and music reference sources, Strong commitment to collection building and to innovative public service programs.
  • Excellent communication skills (reading, writing, speaking). Demonstrated excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications and analytical ability.
  • Demonstrated record of designing project and bringing them to a conclusion in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and independently with varied groups within a complex organization and rapidly changing team environment.
Preferred

Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of one or more European languages.
  • Experience working in an academic music and/or performing arts library.
  • Experience with course instruction planning.
Principal Responsibilities
  • Serves as subject specialist for relevant academic departments and students and faculty throughout the university. Provides research consultations, instructions sessions, in‑person and virtual reference services, and other liaison librarian support.
  • Develops library collection in all appropriate formats (print, digital, audio‑visual, etc.). Builds strong vendor relationships for this purpose.
  • Raises awareness of collections through outreach efforts such as maintaining office hours, social media, exhibits, tours, mailing list messages, and the sponsorship for concerts, lectures and conferences.
  • Creates and maintains web sites, online research guides, and other digital tools for research and teaching.
  • May work closely with staff who order and process collection materials.
  • May collaborate with special collections colleagues regarding acquisitions of rare music materials.
  • May collaborate with relevant departments on projects related to collection preservation and digitization. Collaborates with relevant departments in support of research and teaching.
  • May collaborate with library staff engaged in fund‑raising and development efforts.
  • Participates in Research and Learning planning and programs. Participates in library system‑wide planning, committees, and working groups, and engages in collaborations and professional activities at Yale, as well as regionally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Serves as Instructor of Record for MUS 560:
    Music Research and Editions for the Yale School of Music.
  • May be required to assist with disaster recovery efforts.
  • May be required to assist with other duties as assigned.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree from an ALA‑accredited library school and an advanced degree in music.
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
