Position Description
The Department of Statistics and Data Science (SDS) at Yale University invites applications for an open-rank faculty position (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027. We seek statisticians and data scientists whose research is motivated by important real-world problems and contributes to new statistical, computational, and/or machine learning methodologies to address them. The search is broad and welcomes research spanning modern statistical methods, machine learning, AI, and emerging approaches to data science, with applications across a wide range of scientific, social, and technological domains.
We especially value research that engages deeply with substantive questions and benefits from, or contributes to, sustained collaborations with researchers and practitioners in other fields.
The Department of SDS at Yale has experienced substantial and sustained growth in recent years, with significant expansion of its faculty and interdisciplinary connections across the University. The department includes faculty members with joint appointments in a number of other departments and programs, reflecting the broad reach of statistics and data science rent faculty have Ph.D.’s in fields including Applied Mathematics, Brain & Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Political Science, and Statistics.
Excellence in teaching and advising in Statistics and Data Science is highly valued, and new faculty will have opportunities to develop courses that align with their research interests. The department is collegial and seeks faculty with strong interpersonal skills who can broaden Yale’s intellectual community and effectively teach and mentor students with diverse backgrounds, interests, and career goals.
