The Mechanical Engineer supports the design, development, and certification of mechanical products for aerospace applications. This role contributes across the full product lifecycle, from concept development through detailed design, prototyping, qualification testing, and production support. The engineer applies advanced mechanical engineering principles while ensuring compliance with applicable aerospace standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Leads the design and development of multiple components or complex subsystems within larger engineering programs
- Applies expertise in one or more technical disciplines to support team and organizational objectives
- Works independently with minimal supervision, exercising sound engineering judgment
- Develops feasibility studies, verification plans, and test methods to validate product and system performance
- Collaborates with engineering peers and cross-functional stakeholders to define operating procedures, resolve technical issues, and provide design guidance
- Reviews and analyzes design proposals, specifications, manuals, and technical data to evaluate feasibility, cost, reliability, and maintainability
- Supports prototype fabrication, qualification builds, and pre-production manufacturing activities
- Works closely with Manufacturing, Test, Electrical, and Quality teams to resolve engineering issues and maintain accurate documentation and bills of materials
- Ensures product designs comply with environmental and qualification standards such as RTCA DO-160
- Supports and coordinates certification efforts in accordance with applicable FAA regulations
- Interfaces with certification authorities, designated engineering representatives, and regulatory bodies during design reviews and compliance demonstrations
- Delivers results aligned with departmental goals, schedules, and quality expectations
- Demonstrates accountability and ownership for technical outcomes
- Effectively supports both internal teams and external customers
- Collaborates productively in a team-based engineering environment
- Communicates clearly regarding technical status, risks, and commitments
- Shares knowledge and project information across teams and disciplines
- Solves complex problems by applying established solutions in innovative ways
- Integrates continuous learning into engineering practices and workflows
- Provides technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 5–6+ years of experience
- Experience designing components using manufacturing processes such as injection molding, die casting, machining, vacuum forming, and sheet metal fabrication
- Strong knowledge of materials, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Hands-on experience with CAD tools such as Solid Works, AutoCAD, or equivalent
- Familiarity with PDM and PLM systems and configuration management processes preferred
