Description This position performs a variety of mechanical/electrical engineering related functions in support of the design and application of pump and pumping accessories. This will include a range of engineering duties from calculations, CAD drafting, testing and other similar technical functions.
Controls Engineer - New Haven, CTThis position performs a variety of mechanical/electrical engineering related functions in support of the design and application of pump and pumping accessories. This will include a range of engineering duties from calculations, CAD drafting, testing and other similar technical functions.
Duties And Responsibilities- To perform basic calculations to support the application of pumps sold. This would include plotting of performance curves, power load calculations, system curve calculations and plotting, bearing life calculations, etc.
- Daily support of sales by answering applications questions with inside sales team, outside sales team, distributors and end users.
- Testing and reporting of pumps and pump products to define their measured performance.
- To write reports associated with the performance, application, quality and other key aspects of the pump products and competitors’ products.
- To write process procedures for the assembly of pumps and pump products made.
- Work with supply chain department and other outside sources in the development of new products and components.
- Assembly of part numbers and bills of material used to manufacturer product.
- Daily interaction with the ERP system including looking up parts, BOM’s, inventory locations, costs, etc.
- Detailing of mechanical and electrical of pumps and component designs in the CAD system and to drafting standards.
- Ability to solve problems with pumps and pump products and to work as a team with other members in determining the best resolution.
- To train others in the assembly of mechanical and electrical elements of a submersible pump including bearings, mechanical seals, lip seals, O-rings, power cable assemblies, impellers, stators, electrical controls, and similar components.
- Perform mechanical inspection utilizing precision instrumentation including micrometers, depth gauges, bore gauges, balancers and similar instrumentation.
- Utilize assembly tools such as torque wrenches, air tools, electric drills, wrenches, screwdrivers, and similar tools when assisting the assembly technician or others in assembly or disassembly of a pump.
- Inspect electrical motors, wiring and controls using precision electrical instrumentation including volt-ohm meters, meger tester, high pot tester, and other electrical/motor instrumentation.
- To write manuals, develop electrical wiring schematics and similar documentation, translating them into proper assembly procedures and methods.
- Support the evaluation of pumps returned from the field to understand key modes of failure and potential short- and long-term resolutions for improvement.
- Work with all functional disciplines in the organization to facilitate meeting production requirements.
- Participate in company wide continuous improvement and similar quality efforts to help grow the operation.
- Able to perform daily work safely with full consideration for fellow employees and in full compliance with OSHA safety standards.
- Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
- Preference is a Bachelor of Science degree in a mechanical, electrical or similar engineering discipline.
- Three to five years’ experience in a technical manufacturing or similar environment. Previous knowledge of centrifugal pumps is a plus.
- Proficient in the design and application of mechanical and electrical components and equipment.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing and assembly operation.
