Overhead Catenary System Engineer – Boston, MA
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Overhead Catenary System Engineer for our Boston, MA Office.
Your Impact- Ensure that company technical policies and procedures are practiced during the execution of projects
- Develop design approaches and concepts for projects including Power Distribution Design for Light Rail, Heavy Rail, Commuter Rail, and High Speed Rail, utilizing overhead contact or third rail systems
- Prepare Overhead Contact System studies for AC and DC electrified railway systems
- Assist in the preparation of Overhead Contact System technical calculations
- Assist in the preparation of Overhead Contact System layouts, arrangements and details
- Develop and review designs and technical specifications, meeting quality standards
- Develop construction cost estimates
- Develop design/engineering cost estimates
- Assist project managers in the coordination of project designs with other disciplines including attendance at project meetings
- Review shop drawings, record changes, and communicate directly with suppliers, contractors, and client representatives as required
- Perform field inspections as needed
- Participate in WSP’s quality process for all deliverables
- Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide “trusted advisor” service and future ready solutions for clients
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline
- 5-7 years of relevant post‑education experience in engineering, prior transit and rail experience, and infrastructure design
- Experience and technical ability to work on different types of Overhead Contact Systems
- Support and participate in the Systems implementation phase of projects, such as installation, Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Record Drawings and final reports
- Support procurement efforts by authoring technical requirements and specifications, performing vendor bid evaluations and supporting vendor selection
- Commissioning of Traction Power Distribution Systems and Equipment, including experience with engineering design on at least three transit or commuter/intercity rail projects
- Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills
- Detail‑oriented with an emphasis on quality work products
- Experience in a Micro Station and AutoCAD design environment for the development of Overhead Contact System design drawings
- Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications
- Immediate availability to work in the US
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements
- Master’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License or Ability to obtain
- Ability to perform site investigations along electrified railroad

CompensationExpected Salary (all locations): $103,300–$175,000.
